About MeMy name is Grant Varnau and I am a Physics Major in my final year at San Diego State University. I am a NIH/MARC Scholar as of May 2015 and NSF LSAMP Scholar as of August 2016, as well as the Alumni Engagement Officer of the Society of Physics Students SDSU Chapter.
I currently conduct research with Dr. William Tong at San Diego State University in laser spectroscopy. Our work consists of utilizing degenerate four-wave mixing spectroscopy to detect nanogram amounts of explosives commonly used in IEDs. My research interests include ultrafast spectroscopy, nonlinear optics, optical materials, and biological/chemical sensing. Upon graduating from San Diego State University, I intend to pursue my PhD in Physics, Optical Science, or Materials Science Engineering utilizing optical techniques to tackle fundamental problems in all fields of science. |
